From the mid 1940s to 1972, African-American students at Lonoke attended George Washington Carver High School.

When all students were combined at Lonoke High School, the Carver High School building was converted to a junior high school and then a middle school.

The Carver Alumni Association is turning the site of the former Carver High School gymnasium, on Frank T. Bunton Street (formerly Ferguson Street), into a historical site.
