Lonoke’s baseball Jackrabbits did what they needed to do last week to set up Monday’s scheduled combined conference showdown with Central Arkansas Christian, but weather delayed the doubleheader until Wednesday.
Lonoke (11-8 overall, 7-1 combined conference) will travel to CAC (12-5, 9-1).
Chris Foor’s Jackrabbits will then test themselves Thursday at Class 7A North LIttle Rock (13-5).
“A lot of our guys play summer ball against those kids, and I coached some of them,” Foor said. “There’s a little playful banter between them. It’s another opportunity to see quality pitching and quality play to prepare us for district, regional and state.”
The Jackrabbits have conference doubleheaders scheduled for Tuesday, April 18 with eStem (1-11 at press time) and Thursday, April 20 with Mayflower (11-8).
Last week, the Jackrabbits swept a doubleheader from Baptist Prep, 8-7 and 15-7, and claimed a non-conference win over Class 5A Beebe, 7-6.
“It was back and forth, and not a pretty game,” Foor said. “Early on I knew most of our front-line pitchers weren’t going to throw, so we staffed the game.”
The Jackrabbits used junior Tallon Swint, sophomore Hunter Kyzer and sophomore Will Roark, who gave up one hit in three innings.
“We had runners on base all night long,” Foor said.
Kade Stuart went 3-for-3 with a double; Casey Martin tripled in his only official at-bat with three intentional walks.
“We won on the last play of the game,” Foor said. “Will came up to bat. He’s been struggling at the varsity level, but he’s probably the best hunter on the team. We had runners on first and third, and we ran a safety squeeze. The first baseman had to hold the runner on first, and we walked in (from third). They didn’t even make a play.”
