Track season ended prematurely for Carlisle’s Bison and Lady Bison after the death last week of sophomore Garrett Hogan.

Hogan ran the 800 and a leg on the 4x800 relay team for the Bison. His funeral was Saturday, the same day as the 3-2A Conference Meet, and the Carlisle athletes chose not to compete.

Weather had already limited the varsity schedule. Coach Jonathan Buffalo said his teams had competed only at Lonoke and Riverview after two meets were canceled. His girls team included senior Paige Jenkins and two sophomores; the Bison roster included seven sophomores.

“We were a young track team, and they competed well,” Buffalo said. “We had quite a few kids competing at the junior high level. We’re always trying to build the program from the bottom up. We had more on the senior high roster this year than we did last year. We’ll keep trying to build.”

The junior Bison and Lady Bison competed at England, Riverview, Stuttgart and Lonoke. Because of weather, the junior high conference meet had been postponed until Saturday.
