With May Day come and gone, Cabot’s teams are eying state tournament berths in several sports.


Baseball


The Panthers are in the Class 7A state tournament in Bentonville later this month.


At 20-7 overall and 11-1 in the 7A-Central, the Panthers have clinched one of the top four spots from the conference.


On Tuesday night, they played at Fort Smith Northside and will end the regular season against North Little Rock at home on Friday.


The Charging Wildcats trail Cabot by a game in the league standings and assuming both teams win on Tuesday, the game on Friday is for the conference championship. A win and the Panthers are the outright champs, a loss and they and North Little Rock tie.Cabot beat North Little Rock 6-4 in extra innings on April 11.

Cabot and North Little Rock are tied for second place in the 7A-Central at 10-2.


The Panthers are 22-4 overall, with two of those losses to league leader Bryant, currently undefeated.


All three teams will make the Class 7A state tournament later this month at Fayetteville High School.


The top two seeds for the conference will get a bye, so this Friday’s home game against North Little Rock is crucial to Cabot’s playoff path.


The Panthers won the last game in extra innings, 9-4.

Cabot will get a tuneup game against Bentonville West at Arkansas Tech next week before the state tournament starts.


Girls soccer


The Panthers are rolling as they are a perfect 12-0 in the 7A-Central.


Assured of the No. 1 seed, they won’t play in the state tournament in Fort Smith until 10 a.m. on Friday, May 12 against the winner of two teams that are still be determined.


Cabot is 19-2 overall and ranked as the No. 1 team in the state in the MaxPreps.com poll.


They have a Tuesday night match at Fort Smith Northside and will host North Little Rock on Friday.

To have a shot at the state tournament, Cabot has to beat Fort Smith Northside on Tuesday night and then end the season with another win against North Little Rock.


Cabot is 3-9 in the 7A-Central but beating league leader Northside and following with cellar dweller North Little Rock would put the Panthers at 5-14 and a shot at getting in. The top four seeds are already decided in Northside, Little Rock Catholic, Bryant and Conway.
