Three local players are atop their respective standings for the Arkansas State Golf Association’s various Player of the Year awards.


Nick Zimmerman of North Little Rock leads the men’s division by 10 points over Wes McNulty of White Hall, 240-230. In three tournaments, Zimmerman has won Mystic Creek and Harbor Oaks and finished fourth at the Rebsamen Invitational/Little Rock City Championship.


Bill Wrentz of Cabot is atop the super senior (64+) division with 435 points, 110 more than Charlie Angel of Hot Springs. In six tournaments by press time, Wrentz had won at Fianna Hills, Harbor Oaks and the Rebsamen Invitational/Little Rock City Championship. He finished second at the Relyance Bank Classic, tied for second at Eagle Hill and took third at Mystic Creek.


Connor Gaunt of Cabot leads a close race in the junior boys rankings, 355 to Miles Smith’s 331.67. In five outings, Gaunt has a win at Shadow Valley, a tie for second at the Greater Little Rock Junior, a third at the Arkansas Junior Amateur, a tie for fourth at the Monk Wade Junior and a tie for seventh at the qualifying for the Junior Amateur.


Other locals on the men’s list include Nick Crisco of North Little Rock and Kevin Walker of Sherwood, tied for 22nd with 35 points; Beau Glover of North Little Rock, 44th with eight points; Trey Schaap of North Little Rock, tied for 45th with five; and Bruce Johnston of Maumelle, 47th with four.


Timothy Burke of Hot Springs Village leads Schaap in the mid-senior (40+) race, 242-210. Other locals on that list include Jeff King of Lonoke, fifth with 161; Brett Lukas of Sherwood, ninth with 85; Bill Burkhalter of Maumelle, tied for 13th with 50; and Blayne Northern of Cabot, tied for 25th with 12.


Jay Lester of Maumelle (the Hendrix College golf coach) is the highest local golfer in the senior (54+) rankings, tied for 20th with 35 points. Mike Pickens of Maumelle is 23rd with 20; Clark Fitts of North LIttle Rock is tied for 25th with 14.


Other locals on the super senior list are David Lawrence of Sherwood, fourth with 152 points; Jim Smith of Sherwood, sixth with 120; Gary Whitt of Cabot, tied for 10th with 80; Chuck Kaiser of Maumelle and Charly Jones of Sherwood, tied for 14th with 45; and Fred Nahlen of Cabot, tied for 17th with 20.


Taylor Loeb of Maumelle is the highest local on the women’s list. She has 125 points to stand fourth; Nora Phillips of Hot Springs leads with 265. Felisha Lee of Sherwood is eighth with 70 points.


Maumelle’s Pam Evans is fifth in the senior women’s (50+) standings with 135 points. Pat Elliott of Hot Springs leads with 340. Kathy Bay of Sherwood stands seventh with 105.


Blaine Calhoon of Ward is sixth in the junior boys standings with 203.5 points. Logan Stephens of Cabot is 27th with 40; Hunter Walker of Sherwood is 30th with 25; Hyunje Lee of North Little Rock is 34th with 21.75; Caleb Miller of Cabot is 38th with 14 and Cade Carter of Austin is tied for 39th with 12.


At press time, Josie Roberson of Maumelle stood second to Elizabeth Moon of Forrest City in the junior girls race, 520-465. In recent results, Moon won state qualifying for the Trusted Choice Big “I” at RidgePointe Country Club, 11 strokes better than Roberson, who finished fifth. Moon finished second at the Arkansas Junior Amateur; Roberson was third.


Other locals on the junior girls list are Mackenzie Lee of North Little Rock, fourth with 267.5; Hannah Bakalekos of Sherwood, eighth with 147; Alexis Montgomery of Maumelle, ninth with 138; Allie Weiner of Maumelle, 12th with 92; and Lauren Loeb of Maumelle, 20th with 29.

• In state qualifying for the Trusted Choice Big “I” at RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Blaine Calhoon of Ward tied for ninth at 81-72—153. Noah Minton of Jonesboro won with 71-66—137. Josie Roberson and Alexis Montgomery of Maumelle finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the girls tournament after 83-76—159 and 84-78—162. Elizabeth Moon of Forrest City won with 77-71—148.


• The ASGA Parent-Child Championship at Maumelle Country Club last week yielded the following winners: Marianne Strauch And Aaron DePoy, 77, grandparent-grandchild; Donna Poynter and Bruce Poynter and Reed Peevey and Susan Hammonds, 74, mother-son; Billy Blackburn and Baylor Blackburn, 66, father-son; and Steve Leake and Stephanie Leake, Gaven Smith and Payton Smith and Joey Nichols and Anna Kate Nichols, 66, father-daughter.
