Lonoke’s volleyball squad will finish the regular season Thursday when the Lady Rabbits play host to the Little Rock Home School Flames at 4 p.m. at the middle school gym for a senior high varsity match.
Laura Park’s team was 15-3 overall and 11-0 in 1A-4A District 9 play heading into Tuesday’s final district match against Jacksonville Lighthouse.
The seeding for next week’s 4A-Central District Tournament at Heber Springs will be decided when league coaches meet Friday, but the Lady Rabbits will likely be the No. 1 seed. First-round winners Monday will advance to Tuesday’s semifinals and earn an automatic berth to the Class 4A State Tour-nament at Southside Batesville.
The district championship and third-place matches will be played Wednesday for seeding for the state tournament.
So are the Lady Rabbits ready for another post-season run?
“It’s hard to tell because we’re really not playing a lot of upper-level teams,” Park said after another three-set District 9 win Monday, this time over Marianna Lee. “I’m hoping the home school team will be a good test for us Thursday.”
The Lady Rabbits are seeking their 16th consecutive state tournament appearance. They equaled their best showing last year — a quarterfinal finish — and won a school-record 28 matches.
The 4A-Central also includes Baptist Prep, Central Arkansas Christian, Heber Springs, Helena-West Hel-ena Central, Joe T. Robinson, Riverview and Southside Batesville.
Lonoke, which finished second to CAC in the district tournament last year, has split regular-season matches and won a tournament match with the Lady Mustangs and beaten Baptist Prep in their only meeting.
Park said she expected the rest of the top four seeds to include Baptist, Southside Batesville and CAC in some order.
Last week, Lonoke beat Helena-West Helena Central, 25-10, 25-7, 25-4.
