Lonoke’s Laura Park was recently named 4A-Central Volleyball Coach of the Year for 2017.
The Lady Rabbits finished 22-5, swept combined conference 1A-4A District 9 without losing a set, took third in the 4A-Central District Tournament and lost their opening-round match in the Class 4A State Tournament to Shiloh Christian, which went on to beat Baptist Prep for the state title.
Park said it was one of the best seasons in school history.
“It was a great honor for the coaches to vote for me for that award and also very humbling when it was announced at the district tournament,” she said. “So many players from the other teams cheered for me.
“I feel like good coaches, good leaders, try to surround themselves with better people. The coaches and players made me look good.”
Other volleyball honors for the Lady Rabbits included Keiunna Walker and Kennedy White, all-state; Kayla Shelton, all-state tournament; Walker, White and Emily Armstrong, all-district; Armstrong, White, Walker, Shelton, Gracie Mason and Caitlyn Dubois, all-conference; Sydney Hallum, Lindsey McFadden and Maddie Pool, second-team all-conference; and Hallum and White, academic all-conference. White is one of five all-star nominees from the 4A-Central.
