The Cabot Lady Panthers opened the season by going 1-2 in the Heavenly Hoops Tournament at Mount St. Mary’s McAuley Center.

Cabot beat Forrest City 58-51 in the first game; then lost to EStem 58-47 before falling to Star City 54-39 in the third-place game Saturday.

In the win over the Fillies, Cabot trailed 12-9 after one quarter but rallied to tie the game at 24-24 at halftime.

The Lady Panthers outscored Forrest City 16-12 in the third quarter and 18-15 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Lesley Roberts led Cabot with 18 points. She also had six rebounds.

Brooklyn Strainer had eight points. Izzy Arnold and Dejah Jimerson had seven points each. Morgan Westbrook and Blair Nichols scored five. Emily Belin and Gabby Dodson had four points each.

In the loss to the Lady Mets, Cabot trailed 16-9 after one quarter and 33-17 at halftime.

Roberts led Cabot with 13 points. Belin and Dodson had eight points apiece. Stracener and Jimerson had five points each. Hannah Chandler had four. Scoring two each were Nichols and Chloe Thompson.

Berlin led Cabot with seven rebounds.

In the loss to Star City, Cabot trailed 11-0 before Thompson hit a short jumper with 2:24 left in the first quarter. Cabot trailed 13-4 after eight minutes.

Star City pushed its lead to 18-5 before the Lady Panthers scored five in a row to trailed 18-10 with 2:06 left in the first half. Stracener hit two free throws, Arnold hit one and Hannah Ogilvie hit a short jumper to account for the run.

Star City scored the final eight points of the first half to lead 26-10 at halftime.

Belin hit a short jumper early in the second half to make the score 26-12. However, Star City outscored the Lady Panthers 14-6 the remainder of the quarter to lead 40-18 heading into the final eight minutes.

Cabot more than doubled its point total in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 21-14 but it wasn’t enough to get the win.

Arnold led Cabot with 11 points. Ogilvie had 10. Thompson added seven. Jayna Davis scored four. Scoring two each were Strainer and Jimerson.

Cabot Pre-Holiday Classic

Cabot will host the annual Pre-Holiday Classic on Dec. 4-9 at Panther Arena.

Cabot will play Little Rock McClellan in the first round on Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m. If they win, the Lady Panthers will play at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8. If they lose, the Lady Panthers will play at 4 p.m. Dec. 8. The championship game is Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. The third-place game is Dec. 9 at 3 p.m.

The fifth-place game is Dec. 9 at noon.

Other first-round games include Searcy vs. Pine Bluff, Beebe vs. Pulaski Academy and Lonoke vs. Maumelle.
