The Cabot Panthers took a step backwards last week, falling to two teams they previously beat.
Cabot, which is now 15-9 overall and 3-7 in 7A-Central play, lost to both Fort Smith Southside and Conway. Cabot beat both of those schools in the first half of league play.
Against Southside, Cabot lost to the Mavericks 65-59. That was Southside’s first win against Cabot in seven tries. Cabot had beaten Southside in the finals of the Van Buren tournament in December then last month.
However, the game that really stings is the loss to Conway.
Conway rallied to beat the Panthers 44-42 at Panther Arena. Cabot had beaten the Wampus Cats in double overtime earlier this season.
Cabot led 12-6 after one quarter and 24-16 at halftime.
Conway cut the deficit to 32-26 after three quarters then outscored the Panthers 18-10 in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Conway took the lead with 16 seconds left on a steal and basket by Terry Clardy. Cabot had a chance to win but Jalen Brown’s three-pointer at the buzzer was no good.
Noah Allgood led Cabot with 11 points before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.
