Carlisle prepped for the post-season last week with a 50-48 thriller at Concord, and now Jonathan Buffalo’s Lady Bison head into the 3-2A District Tournament 24-3, having won 16 consecutive games.

Carlisle, ranked third in Class 2A, according to Sunday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, escaped the Lady Pirates, sixth this week in Class 1A, 50-48. Concord was ranked fourth last week.

“That was a tough place to play and a good, competitive basketball game to get us ready for the post-season,” Buffalo said Sunday. “We faced adversity for the first time in a long time, and we were able to overcome it.”

The Lady Bison trailed after the first quarter, 17-16; at halftime, 23-20; and after three quarters, 39-36.

“We were down as many as seven in the fourth quarter,” Buffalo said. “We only had two leads the entire game — 2-0, then 49-48 with a minute left.”

Kylie Warren led Carlisle with 21 points. DeShaye Ricks added 18.

The Lady Bison, as the top seed from the South, have a bye to Friday’s 4 p.m. semifinal of the 3-2A District Tournament at Carlisle. Earle (22-4 and ranked second in Class 2A) is the top seed from the North.

Carlisle will face the survivor of Des Arc, No. 2 from the North, against Palestine-Wheatley, fifth from the South; and Hazen, No. 3 from the South, versus Augusta, fourth from the North.

The four semifinalists will advance to the Class 2A North Regional at Marked Tree next week.

The district championship is set for 7 p.m. Saturday with the third-place game at 4.

“Here it is — the next three, four weeks of basketball,” Buffalo said. “You put all that time in from the summer, the offseason, football season, the non-conference season, conference — it’s for right now.”
