The Cabot Panthers baseball team is off to a 5-1 start in defense of its Class 7A state championship.
Cabot opened the season with a 9-0 win over Pulaski Robinson on Feb. 26. The Panthers beat Maumelle 6-0 on Feb. 27.
In a rematch of the last year’s state-championship game, the Panthers lost to Springdale Har-Ber 7-3 on March 2. Cabot bounced back with a 7-5 win over Pulaski Academy on March 3. Cabot then beat Bentonville 11-1 on March 5 in Clarksville.
Cabot’s latest game was a 9-2 win against Rogers Heritage in Russellville.
Cabot led 2-1 after one inning against the War Eagles. Each team scored a run in the third. The Panthers took control of the game in the fourth inning, scoring three times. They added three more runs in the sixth.
Cabot had seven hits in the win. Zach Slunder was 2 or 3. Kyler Franks, Brodey Schluter, Houston King, Clayton Gray and Tanner Wilson had one hit each.
Franks, King and Gray scored two runs each. Also scoring were Brayden Morse, Kyler Camack, Wilson and Dillon Thomas.
Ty Cyr got the win for the Panthers on the mound. He pitched four innings, giving up two runs and two hits. He struck out two.
