Lonoke’s softball team hammered Joe T. Robinson in three innings Monday, 18-0, to improve to 12-7 overall and 9-2 heading into Tuesday’s game with eStem.

Laura Park’s team will finish the regular season later this week at home against Mayflower (12-8) on Thursday and Baptist Prep (7-6) on Friday.

“Both of them have a pretty solid team,” Park said. “Both have some good pitching. We won both the first time we faced them, but we know they’re probably going to come back looking to come out on top this time.

“We have to make sure we keep focused and play solid defense and keep our bats going. Off and on, we’ve struggled with our bats trying to make key hits at key times, and we’ve left a lot of runners on. We can’t do that against these two teams. If we do, they’ll take advantage.”

The 4A-2 District Tournament will be played next week at Baptist Prep, with the top four teams advancing to regional competition. District coaches were to meet Wednesday to determine seeding.

Last week, Lonoke beat Heber Springs, 6-0; and lost to Bald Knob, 10-0.

Against Heber, Lonoke broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. Valerie Staton had a double; Madeline Belford had two RBIs and Madison Crow one. Alyssa Hearon delivered two hits.

Against Bald Knob, Lonoke fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after three and saw the Lady Bulldogs break open the game with a five-run fifth. They added two more in the sixth to end the game early. Molly Harrison led Lonoke with three hits, including a double. Belford and Maddie Pool added one run apiece.
